 A Comissão Executiva da CGTP-IN reuniu, em 3 de Maio de 2010, em Lisboa, para analisar a situação económica e sócio-laboral portuguesa - no presente cenário de crise internacional - e perspectivar a acção e a luta sindical, face às mais recentes medidas anunciadas pelo governo, que ameaçam seriamente os direitos e interesses dos trabalhadores e o futuro do País.
À semelhança da Grécia e de outros países da União Europeia, também em Portugal, o governo aprovou um “Orçamento de Estado” e um “Programa de Estabilidade e Crescimento” (PEC), em nome do combate à crise e ao défice público. Trata-se de instrumentos que comportam um conjunto de orientações e medidas – apoiadas pelos partidos da direita parlamentar e pelo grande patronato - que, a serem aplicadas, conduziriam a um ainda maior desastre económico e social, acrescentando mais crise à crise, essencialmente, à custa dos trabalhadores e das camadas mais desfavorecidas da população.
Também em Portugal, num quadro de agravamento exponencial do desemprego e da precariedade laboral e de crescimento da pobreza e da exclusão social, o governo prepara um amplo pacote de privatizações de mais sectores estratégicos, o congelamento e cortes nos salários e pensões, o aumento da carga fiscal, a redução da protecção social – cortando mesmo no subsídio de desemprego. Em paralelo, grandes grupos económicos e financeiros e accionistas e gestores continuam a acumular lucros e a auferir prémios e privilégios escandalosos.
Mas, também em Portugal, cresce o protesto, a indignação e a luta, expressas nas lutas sectoriais em curso e presentes nas combativas manifestações e concentrações que, neste 1º de Maio, a CGTP-IN promoveu em dezenas de localidades, reclamando políticas alternativas, capazes de determinarem um novo rumo para o País e para a Europa.
Neste contexto, a CGTP-IN reafirma a sua inequívoca e profunda solidariedade com as poderosas lutas que os trabalhadores e o conjunto do movimento sindical grego têm vindo a desenvolver ao longo dos últimos meses, contra a tentativa de imposição de medidas anti-laborais e anti-sociais sem precedentes no vosso País.
A vossa resistência e luta tenaz constituem um importantíssimo exemplo de determinação e combatividade que, estamos certos, dá alento a todos os que não aceitam a resignação e o fatalismo perante as medidas draconianas e de total insensibilidade social que as instâncias comunitárias e o Fundo Monetário Internacional, bem como os governos das maiores potências da União Europeia, querem impor à Grécia e que poderão vir também a tentar aplicar noutros países europeus.
No próximo dia 5 de Maio os trabalhadores gregos realizarão mais uma poderosa greve geral. Estamos convosco, saudando, fraternalmente, esta vossa jornada, à qual desejamos o maior sucesso.
A vossa luta é a nossa luta! Também em Portugal, Maio será um mês de intensas mobilizações e lutas, que irão confluir numa Grande Manifestação Nacional, que a CGTP-IN convocou já para o dia 29 de Maio.
Estamos seguros de que a vossa luta, como a nossa, vai continuar, pelo fim das injustiças e desigualdades sociais, em defesa dos direitos e interesses dos trabalhadores e dos nossos povos, pela efectiva mudança de rumo nas nossas sociedades e por um mundo melhor e possível.

 The Executive Committee of CGTP-IN met on 3 May 2010, in Lisbon, to analyse the Portuguese economic, social and labour situation – in the current scenario of international crisis – and adopt the prospects of trade union action and struggle, in view of the most recent measures announced by the government, which seriously threaten workers’ rights and interests and the country’s future.
Similar to Greece and other European Union countries, in Portugal, the government also approved a “State Budget” and a “Stability and Growth Programme” (SGP), in the name of fighting the crisis and the public deficit. These are instruments that contain a set of guidelines and measures – supported by Parliament’s right-wing parties and by big employers – that, in case of being enforced, would cause an even greater economic and social disaster, adding more crisis to the crisis, to the expense of workers and the more underprivileged layers of the population.
Also in Portugal, against a backdrop of unemployment and casual labour’s exponential increase, and of poverty and social exclusion’s growth, the government is preparing a heavy package of privatisations of more strategic sectors, wages and pensions’ freeze and cuts, higher taxes, lower social protection – even cutting on unemployment benefits. Simultaneously, big economic and financial societies, as well as shareholders and managers, continue to accumulate outrageous profits, bonuses and privilege.
But protest, indignation and struggle are also mounting in Portugal, translated in the ongoing sectoral actions and in the fighting demonstrations and gatherings which, on this 1st May, the CGTP-IN organised in dozens of towns, demanding alternative policies that may determine a new course for the country and for Europe.
In this context, the CGTP-IN reaffirms its unequivocal and profound solidarity with the powerful struggles which the workers and the whole Greek trade union movement have been waging over the last months, against the attempts to impose unprecedented anti-labour and anti-social measures in your country.
Your resistance and tenacious struggle are an extremely important example of determination and fighting spirit which, we are certain, inspires all of all those who do not accept resignation and fatalism, in view of the absolutely draconian and socially insensitive measures which the EU bodies and the International Monetary Fund, as well as the governments of the larger European Union powers, want to impose on Greece and that they may well try to equally apply in other European countries.
On May 5th, the Greek workers will hold another powerful general strike. We stand on your side, fraternally saluting this action and wishing it great success.
Your struggle is our struggle! Also in Portugal, May will be a month of intense mobilisation and struggles that will converge in a Large National Demonstration, which the CGTP-IN has already announced for May 29th.
We are certain that your struggle, like ours, will continue, to put an end to social injustice and inequality, to defend our workers and peoples’ interests, for a true change of course in our societies and for a better and possible world.
