A GREVE GERAL MOSTROU A FORÇA E DETERMINAÇÃO DOS TRABALHADORES EM CONTINUAR A LUTA CONTRA O PACOTE DA EXPLORAÇÃO E EMPOBRECIMENTO, EM DEFESA DOS DIREITOS E PELO FUTURO DE PORTUGAL. A nossa avaliação confirmou que a participação na greve geral teve uma expressão semelhante às greves gerais mais recentes. A greve de 22 de março confirmou, por outro lado, que foi concretizada num momento crucial e oportuno, face à discussão das alterações muito negativas do Código do Trabalho, a partir do dia 28 de março na Assembleia da República. A participação dos trabalhadores na greve em locais de trabalho do sector público e privado, a participação em manifestações e comícios realizados no dia da greve e o claro apoio da opinião pública expressaram uma realidade muito concreta: os trabalhadores portugueses não se resignam às inevitabilidades e rejeitam, com uma firme determinação, a política de desastre nacional, recessão e regressão social, bem como as medidas antilaborais contidas na orientações da Troika e do governo português. Considerando a dimensão e profundidade da ofensiva em curso, é necessário intensificar a nossa luta: em defesa de um rumo alternativo e de direitos e conquistas históricos; pela valorização do trabalho e dos trabalhadores; por um futuro com direitos para as novas gerações; pelo desenvolvimento do aparelho produtivo; para defender a democracia e a soberania nacional. A greve geral recebeu mensagens de solidariedade de muitas organizações sindicais de diferentes partes do mundo. Todas elas constituíram para nós e para os trabalhadores portugueses um forte encorajamento em defesa dos seus direitos nos piquetes de greve e nas ruas. Estamos muito gratos a todos vós, estimados camaradas, pela fraterna solidariedade internacionalista.

THE GENERAL STRIKE SHOWED THE WORKERS’ STRENGTH AND DETERMINATION IN CONTINUING THE STRUGGLE AGAINST THE PROGRAMME OF EXPLOITATION AND IMPOVERISHMENT, IN DEFENSE OF RIGHTS AND FOR THE FUTURE OF PORTUGAL. Our evaluation is that the participation in the general strike had an expression equivalent to the other general strikes recently held. The 22nd March strike also confirmed that it was done in a crucial and timely moment, considering the debate to take place in Parliament after March 28th, on the draft bill containing very negative changes to the Labour Code. The workers’ participation in public and private workplaces, the attendance of demonstrations and rallies held on the day and the clear support of the public opinion, expressed one very clear reality: the Portuguese men and women workers do not resign to inevitabilities and reject, with a firm and determined resolve, the policy of national disaster, recession and social regression and the anti-labour measures, contained in the “troika” and Portuguese government measures. Our struggle – given the dimension and depth of the current offensive – needs to be stepped up: to defend alternative paths and historical rights and gains; to value labour and the workers; for a future with rights for the new generations; for the development of the productive fabric; to defend democracy and national sovereignty. The general strike received solidarity greetings from many trade union organisations from different parts of the world. All of them strongly encouraged us and all the Portuguese workers to defend their rights on the picket lines and in the streets. We are very grateful to you all, dear colleagues, for fraternal internationalist solidarity.
